Teaching Experience

2024

Introduction to Natural Dyes, Allerton Park & Retreat Center: This workshop served as an introduction to natural dyes for folks who had previous dye experience or were completely new to the process. In the summer of 2024 I hosted two workshops where students created a dye chart and worked with silk and cotton. Each individual dyed a piece of fabric that I incorporated into a community quilt, which I donated back to Allerton.

Painting with Cochineal, VisArts: This workshop offered an opportunity to learn about the history and craft of painting with cochineal. I hosted this class in the VisArts Kaplan Gallery where I demonstrated how to paint with cochineal. Participants spent the rest of the workshop creating their own paintings on fabric. The works created were exhibited in my solo project at VisArts in the spring of 2024.

Assistant for the 2024 Natural Dye Mentorship, John C Campbell Folk School:Since 2020 the Folk School has hosted a variety of mentorship programs that invite emerging artists & craftspeople from around the country to attend a workshop series. I was invited as an Assistant Teacher to help facilitate the two-week program.

2023

Celebrating the Body, VisArts: A natural dye workshop series inviting contemporary textile artists local to the Baltimore and Washington DC area to create a community quilt and textile works that celebrate the body. This workshop was funded by the Maryland State Arts Council, the works created were exhibited in my solo project at VisArts in the spring of 2024.

Under the Rug, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts National Workshop:Week long national workshop where I worked with students on introductions to natural dye, sewing, and incorporating textile and alternative materials into a fine art practice.

Natural Dye Workshop, Baltimore Jewelry Center:I was invited to work with the summer Youth Works program to teach a three day course on working with natural dyes. The BJC Youth Works program invites Baltimore City teen residents to work in small metals and jewelry production.

Natural Dye Workshop at the Big Ugly Community Center, Arrowmont Art Reach on the Road:I was invited to teach a series of workshops to children of a variety of ages in West Virginia. The Art Reach on the Road program provides craft education to schools and arts organizations across Central Appalachia.

Quilting and Natural Dye, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts:Community workshop series for adults where we spent the first two evenings experimenting with natural dyes, and the last two evenings focusing on quilting, piecing, and applique techniques.

Felting Fun, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts:Two community workshops revolving around the art of wet felting and needle felting. One class was a day class for adults, the other was for children taking place over three consecutive Saturdays.

Indigo Workshop, Arrowmont Teacher Appreciation:This workshop was held at a school in East Tennessee for visual arts educators in that county. The workshop revolved around creating and dyeing with a communal fructose indigo vat.

2022

Art Reach Natural Dye Workshops, Arrowmont:The Art Reach program is held on the Arrowmont campus and brings in students for a day of craft education from schools within Sevier County.

2017

Introduction to Soft Sculpture, Interlochen Center for the Arts:Week long class for middle school students where they gained skills in hand sewing, working with a sewing machine, needle felting, and three dimensional sketching.
